The ETA C07 inside the Rado is no slouch; it's proven robust and reliable in a number of watches from Tissot, Hamilton, and Certina. With an 80-hour power reserve, it's at the top of the range it plays in. The sapphire box crystal has a double AR coating, and there's a screw-down crown present too – also in bronze.The whole thing makes me wonder just how the Black Bay Ceramic would Réplicas Richard Mille rm 033 have landed if the caliber MT5602-IU hadn't been part of the launch as well. Purely from the standpoint of utility, it seems as if it'd have made more sense to launch it in the Pelagos – a contemporary technical movement for a contemporary technical dive watch.The watch will leave the family and likely find a new home with a well-heeled Rolex collector. But the engraving in the caseback will forever remain unchanged, marking the man whose high-flying adventures and commitment to the mission of the Thunderbirds allow them to keep inspiring us to this very day.The solid (yes!), engraved caseback is screwed in to protect the TAG Heuer Calibre 5 movement, which itself is based on the well-known and reliable ETA 2824-2. Everything I've said about this watch – the DLC case, the matte ceramic bezel, the lumed dial, the quick adjustment clasp – bring the price of this watch to an unfathomably low sub-$4K price point. In fact, it's very sub, sitting at $3,350.It's difficult to measure precisely, but this should happen when the amplitude of the caliber 9012 is either directly at or below 80 degrees, and when the teeth are touching the surface of the impulse pallet. This additional push ensures that even at low amplitudes, the impulse jewel is positioned in front of the impulse-giving escape wheel tooth, which might otherwise miss it.
The reference 6512 is clearly not what you would expect from Rolex, even in the 1950s. The Veriflat and the Verislim (someone in marketing wanted to go home early that day) are evidence that Rolex ventured into ultra-thin territory, albeit for a brief period.
