LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Public Schools system has extended a continuing window film installation services contract with Commercial Window Shield for another year. The contract calls for the company to complete security window film installation projects at school buildings on an as-needed bases.

The partnership began in 2022, when St. Mary’s hired Commercial Window Shield for Phase 1 of its ongoing building glass protection program. That project involved the installation of security window film with a wet glass attachment system in entryways, classroom doors and vulnerable first-floor windows in two school buildings.

That was followed in 2024 by Phase 2, which called for the installation of 8-mil security window film in five buildings utilizing the company’s wet glaze attachment system. In Phase 2, the security film, which is shatter resistant, was installed in building entryways and interior classroom doors as well as a number of vulnerable first floor windows.

To date, Commercial Window Shield has installed shatter resistant window film for hospitals on seven of St. Mary’s 19 buildings. The extension of the contract means the company will be in position to protect additional school buildings in the St. Mary’s system.

The St. Mary’s security window film installation project continues a national trend in which school districts are acting to protect their students and employees from potential violent building intruders with the installation of safety and security window film in vulnerable glass entry areas.

Commercial Window Shield has been at the forefront of the school security movement. Including this project, the company has protected the glass in more than 350 school buildings in 12 states.

Elsewhere, the company has completed safety and security film projects at Geneva, Minooka and Lake Zurich school districts in suburban Chicago; Calvert and Carroll County [Md.] Public Schools; Mechanicsburg and Bath Local Schools, near Lima, Ohio; Bellmore and Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools, N.Y.; Hartford, Glastonbury and Simsbury school districts in Connecticut; Norfolk and Henry County in Virginia; Beaverton, Ore.; Comanche Public Schools, Comanche, Okla., Lansdale, Pa. and Katy, Harmony, Galena Park, San Antonio and Rockwell schools districts in Texas.
