Barcelona vs Olympiacos 6–1 as Firmin López Makes History with Hat-Trick

Barcelona vs Olympiacos: Barcelona delivered a commanding performance in the UEFA Champions League, thrashing Greek side Olympiacos 6–1 at the Estadi Olímpic on Tuesday night. Young forward Firmin López stole the spotlight, becoming the first Spanish player to score a hat-trick for the Catalan giants in the competition.

Hansi Flick’s men took early control of the game, racing to a two-goal lead in the first half before completely overwhelming their opponents after the break. The trio of López, Marcus Rashford, and Pedri constantly troubled the Olympiacos defense, turning the match into a one-sided affair.

Barcelona vs Olympiacos: Alongside López’s historic hat-trick, Marcus Rashford added a brace, and Lamine Yamal converted a penalty to complete the rout.

Barcelona dominated possession with 69% of the ball, registering 14 shots, nine of which were on target. Olympiacos, in contrast, managed just five attempts, only two of which troubled the goalkeeper. Their night went from bad to worse when Santiago Hezé was sent off in the 57th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Marc Casadó.

The hosts opened the scoring early, just seven minutes in, when López capitalized on a rebound created by Yamal’s blocked effort to slot the ball home. Olympiacos nearly equalized 20 minutes later when a deflected shot struck the crossbar, with Barça goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny beaten.

Barcelona vs Olympiacos: Barcelona tightened their grip as López doubled the lead in the 39th minute, driving in a powerful shot from a Dru Fernández pass.

After halftime, Olympiacos briefly showed signs of life. Ayoub El Kaabi reduced the deficit from the penalty spot after a handball by Eric García. However, hopes of a comeback faded when Hezé saw red moments later, leaving the Greek side to play with ten men.

From there, Barcelona ran riot. In the 68th minute, Yamal calmly converted a penalty won by Rashford to make it 3–1. Rashford then scored in the 74th minute, finishing from close range after a clever pass from Alejandro Balde. Two minutes later, López completed his memorable hat-trick with a brilliant half-volley before Rashford struck again in the 79th minute with a stunning long-range effort.

Barcelona vs Olympiacos: The emphatic win lifted Barcelona to ninth place in the standings, with six points from three matches (two wins and one defeat). Olympiacos, meanwhile, remain winless, sitting 32nd with just a single point from three outings.
