Introduced as a thrombopoietin receptor agonist, eltrombopag 50 mg works by causing the cells in the bone marrow to develop more platelets. Eltrombopag is indicated to treat patients with thrombocytopenia (abnormally low platelet counts) and also severe aplastic anemia. It comes as a tablet and as a powder for oral suspension (liquid) to administer by mouth.
