Case Combine History

A Detailed History Of The Case Combine And The Various Models

A case combine often referred to as a rotary harvester is a household name among farmers globally. They are suitable for harvesting various types of grains. Their initial manufacturer was International Harvester, but CNH Global, Case Corporation , and Case International later took over. One must admit that when their design saw the light of the day in 1977, it took the industry by a storm. The traditional design, which used straw walkers and drums, became unpopular.

On the other hand, the case combine, which used a rotor to thresh and separate, became popular. Ever since then, there has been a wide array of models. Let’s take a look at the various Case Combine Models.

1. 14 Series

Their releases were between 1977 and 1980. These 14 series models include 1420, 1440, 1460, 1470, 1480, and 1482. Before 1977, the manufacturer was International Harvester which released the 15 series in 1968. However, it is essential to note that the 15 series comprised conventional combine harvesters. However, series 14 consisted of case combine harvesters, rotary ones to be precise.

2. 16 Series

They were an upgrade of the 14 series following the merger between Case Corporation and International Harvester. It occurred in 1985, and the new Case International was formed. Models included 1682, 1680, 1670, 1660, 1540 and 1620. It is important to note that series 14 and 16 share the last two digits.

3. 16-4/6/8 Series

Again, this series was an upgrade of the 16 one, and its purpose was to take the processing capacity to the next level. The three models’ release year was 1993, with numbers 1688, 1666, and 1644.

4. 21 Series

This series marked a new era of improved user experience, ease of use, relatively high power engines, and better operator comfort. The release took place when a new Case Corporation came about due to Tenneco demerging CaseIH. The series models included 2188, 2166, and 2144.

5. 23 Series

One would say without fear of contradiction that the 23 series was an upgrade of the 21 series. From harvester operation to energy power, various features improved. The models were 2388, 2377, 2366, and 2344. Interestingly, 2377 was to replace 2366, but the latter became more popular than the former.

6. 120 Series

It was the first series of case combine harvesters with hydraulic control, and the models were 9120, 8120, and 7120. The first two had a cleaning area measuring 6.5m2 whereas the third one’s size was 5.4m2.

7. 88 Series

It was a continuation of the 23 line, and it existed simultaneously with the 120 series. Its separation area was 5.48m2, whereas the models were 7088, 6088, and 5088. Its final production took place in 2009.

8. 130/230 Series

Its release was in 2009,with its key feature being the Tier 4/Tire 4a interim engine emissions control. The 130 has a cleaning area of 5.9m2, and the models were 7130, 6130, and 5130. On the other hand, there were the 9230, 8230, and 7230 with a cleaning area of 6.1m2.

9. 4000 Series

They came into existence in 2014 and were based on Axial-Flow harvesters, the 66 series to be precise. These case combine models were 4088 and 4077.

Conclusion

That’s how far along the case combine has come. There were mergers and demerging along the way, but that didn’t deter the course. Each series was an upgrade of the other, giving farmers a better harvesting experience. Only time will tell if there will be more case combine models in the future.
